Ruiru
Foundation
The Society of Christian Doctrine – Preca Comunity began its mission in Ruiru a suburb Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya in 1989 and then in 1991 in Mpeketoni a small town close to the Indian ocean. The early days were difficult due to the isolation of the Members and the rigorous conditions. However, we survived closing the Mpeketoni Centre and channelling all resources into the Ruiru Centre.
Mission Today
Catechesis for the sacraments is held in various locations. Adult groups, outreach groups to young people and general support for the people form the nucleus of the ministry in Kenya.
The SDC runs the Preca Vocational Training Centre (PVTC). Opened in 1998, the training centre has prepared many trainees in acquiring trades in carpentry, electrical installation and motor-vehicle mechanics.
In 2012 the Preca Lending Library opened its doors for the children and youth who attend the SDC. The library contains books and resources in English and Swahili. The Preca Lending Library is another project from which the children and youth who have great needs benefit from.
Immersion Projects are held in Kenya, where young Members and those in training from Malta spend a few months working on a project, assisting in activities and generally providing support for the Members. This is a particular feature of what Kenya can offer the SDC.
Tumshukuru Bwana Mungu wetu!
We give thanks to the Lord our God!
